New music from Daddy Squad – We’re So Lovely
The latest single from Daddy Squad is We’re So Lovely.
Andrew Armstrong is the man behind Daddy Squad – Armstrong was previously part of Monarchy.
Featuring Italian disco bears Hard Ton. We’re So Lovely is an anthem bursting with queer energy and joy.
“I came up with some initial ideas, and we had the “We’re So Lovely” refrain, and Hard Ton took it and ran with it…” explains Daddy Squad. “They totally understood the idea of it being a song of celebration. The lyrics tell people not to feel sorry, don’t bring flowers, just join us in the party. It’s not hedonistic, it’s just a celebration.”
Day Break features the vocals of Saucy Lady.
Day Break is a track that throws back to the golden years of early 90s French Touch, referencing Modjo and StarDust.
“I discovered Saucy Lady on a long wander through Spotify, and checked her Instagram and immediately fell in love…” explains Armstrong, reflecting on the collaboration. “The wigs! The retro looks! The attitude! So, I got in touch, and sent a backing. She had an idea, and we expanded on it, and Day Break was the result.”
“Collaborating over the internet with people discovered on Spotify is definitely the way forward!” adds Armstrong. “This collaboration was so easy and she was great to work with.”
My Magic Number
My Magic Number features the vocals of burlesque icon, Dita Von Teese.
Andrew Armstrong and Dita Von Teese are long-standing creative collaborators. Dita features on the Monarchy track, Disintegration. Armstrong has also written music for Dita’s burlesque shows.
“It started as an instrumental, but straight away I could hear Dita’s voice on it, doing spoken word….” explains Armstrong, reflecting on the track. “I imagined it a mix of Grace Jones and Miss Kitten. The words and imagery just fell out. It’s surrealistic and colourful. Dita’s voice has the perfect purr for that. We organised a session in LA for her to record the vocals, while I sat in remotely on the session. It came together amazingly easily.”
