Is this the hottest ticket in London?
A musical with original songs by Pet Shop Boys, set against the backdrop of Soho’s pulsing nightlife, Closer to Heaven returns to the London stage with a run at Above The Stag.
Written by Jonathan Harvey, Closer to Heaven had its premiere in London in 2001. It was last staged in London in 2015.
The musical tells the story of Dave – a young dancer from Ireland. Dave is new in London and ambitious to make his name. When he takes a job as a barman in a Soho nightclub, he’s surprised to find himself at the heart of a new and very unconventional family. But, as drink and drugs begin to take over his life, his future as a dancer begins to disappear into the haze. Can he drag himself back from the edge and truly shine?
Both comic and tragic, Closer To Heaven is a bittersweet ode to London nightlife, broken dreams and dark desires.
This new production is directed by Steven Dexter, and the cast includes Ian Hallard as Bob Saunders, Adele Anderson as Billie Trix, Blake Patrick Anderson as Dave, and Mikulas Urbanek as Mile End Lee.
