Kissa Jo is using the Therapy of her music to help heal our community
Kissa Jo is a Haitian American Goddess, singer, songwriter, and actress from Miami who has now made her home in Atlanta.
“I’m Caribbean, and repping my culture is important to me – as is representing my community…” explains Kissa Jo. “I’m an out LGBTQ artist, and proud Haitian American woman.”
“My music is a mix of Kompa, pop, r&b, and reggae that I call Kompopae…” continues Kissa Jo. “My music healed me and I want to help heal others through music and the lessons I’ve learned on the road to self-love.”
“I act in film, TV, and commercials, as well as produce…” says Kissa Jo. “I began acting in 2007 after losing weight and feeling confident enough to pursue my dreams. My first audition was for Lovers and Friends – a couple of days before my birthday – and I got the role of Sasha as a birthday present.”
“I started music four years ago, and released my first project HerSheKiss…” explains Kissa Jo. “That project was hard and held a lot of conflict and disappointment, which prompted a two-year break. I started music again two years ago. Since then, I’ve met my music family – SpaceTeam Enterprise – and have been making magic ever since.”
“I’m also a spiritual healer…” adds Kissa Jo. “I’m certified in tantric touch, and I use my Goddess energy and magic in everything I do to heal the collective. I’m an advocate for HIV awareness and I’m working on events and an HIV awareness film to decrease stigma and increase preventive measures. I’m also sex-positive and working on a classy slut movement to end slut-shaming and respectability politics, allowing women to free themselves and their sensuality.”
