ManCrush: Trent Park
Trent Park has released the video for his single Scare Me Most.
Written by Park and collaborator Bodes, the song presents love as the villain in this story – a powerful force with the potential to inflict pain and bring joy.
“For me, the most terrifying thing in life is love…” explains Park. “So many times, I’ve invested in relationships that weren’t real or I foolishly believed there was a spark only to find out it was one sided. Scare Me Most is about my desire – mixed with horror – to have the real die-for-you type of love as opposed to the weak, Netflix-and-chill type of love most people are after these days.”
“When I fall in love, everyone knows it…” adds Park. “It’s no gradual thing. It’s immediate, powerful and right away. I find myself losing balance and control. All too often, it happens at the most inconvenient of times.”
The video for Scare Me Most was created with the help of immersive theatre specialist Derek Spencer. Using a team of actors, the lyrics of Scare Me Most are brought together with intense, one-take choreography.
“We rehearsed for a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon, shot the video, top to bottom, six times…” explains Park. “The last take was perfect and it is the one we used as the final cut.”
“It wasn’t until after college when I moved to the west coast that I finally met people that looked like me…” says Trent, reflecting on growing up in Syracuse. “I saw black, gay, music industry professionals, fully open with their sexuality and living the life I wanted to live. It was the coolest thing and it really helped my confidence to grow so that I could walk boldly in my truth. What I know today is that being a cocktail of minorities makes me special and it’s that unique perspective that I look forward to serving.”
