ManCrush: Yoshi Kawasaki
At the age of 20, Yoshi Kawasaki left Japan to pursue his dream of becoming an internationally famous porn star. He made his debut with UKHotJocks and is now renowned as a fetish model and performer.
What was it about being a porn model that appealed to you?
I’ve always been a big fan of porn.
When I was in junior high, as soon as I’d get home from school I just locked myself in my room and jerked off countless times to porn — like a monkey.
I realised that there was a void of Asian porn actors — that’s when I began to fantasise about becoming a porn star.
I always think of there being quite a strong tradition of sexual fetishes within Japanese culture. Is that accurate?
Japanese have invented and developed so many fetishes, such as Shibari, Zentai, Bukkake, and of course you can’t forget all the Hentai stuff. We also invented fucking tentacle porn!
Who are some of your Asian porn star heroes or inspirations?
There still aren’t many famous Asian gay porn stars. Koh Masaki was a standout for me, because I used to watch Japanese porn a lot — and he was in every goddamn porn film back then. I was more inspired, as a bottom, by Jessie Colter — I’d say that he’s my personal inspiration.
We’ve written a lot about racism on the gay scene, and how it’s quite common for guys to write No Asians on their dating app profiles. Is that something that you’ve ever experienced?
I have frequently experienced that kind of racism, especially here in Europe.
Like everyone, I’ve got preferences in the guys that I find attractive, but seeing things like No Asians written on dating app profiles is just eye-rolling. That kind of attitude is sad — it’s only closing down opportunities.
However, I also feel the same way about the reverse scenario. When I receive a message and the first thing a guy says to me is something like: ‘Hi, I love Asians!’ all I can say to those guys is ‘Good for you.’
I have tons of fetishes, but have no respect for guys who fetishise race. That’s straight-up degrading, and not the type of degradation that I enjoy.
The videos that you post to Twitter often show you jacking-off in public places such as gym locker-rooms. Have you ever had any disasters where you’ve been caught jacking-off and it didn’t go well?
I haven’t been caught while I was wanking yet, but the risk of getting caught – or finding guys that want to join in – totally adds to the excitement.
You’ve talked about your love of exhibitionism, that it excites you to be watched by strangers. Why is that?
What excites me the most in exhibitionism is humiliation. The sense of someone else watching me getting nasty and sleazy or getting used is a big part of the turn-on. That’s why I love doing porn, because I know that thousands of people will be watching me going fully dirty.
Is that why you enjoy performing live shows at parties like Hard On?
Totally. Plus, if I find someone attractive, I can pull him on stage and play! Hard On is a place where you come to fuck, so the vibe there is very sexual overall.
Do you watch a lot of porn?
I used to watch porn every day. I don’t do that anymore. I watch it only occasionally — like every other week, when I can’t be bothered to find a guy from a hook-up app.
When I do watch porn, I’ll watch it on either my phone or my laptop. When I have time, I tend to have an edging session which takes at least 30 minutes. Otherwise it could be as quick as five or ten minutes.
Do you have an underwear fetish at all?
Not really, I just love any underwear that shows a big manly bulge.
When you’re filming porn, how do you create porn that your audience will want to watch?
Fucking for porn is completely different from fucking in your private life. That’s why, on camera, I try to give actions that are as genuine as possible. The audience can definitely tell if the porn actors are sincerely having fun or acting.
What are some of the current trends in porn that you think will shape what we’re watching in the coming years?
I’m hoping that kink and fetish porn kinky — watersports, fisting, BDSM — will become more and more popular.
