New study highlights changing attitudes in Hungary
Greater visibility and acceptance of LGBTQ people defies government's systemic homophobia.

A new poll conducted by data specialists Median has found that 60% of people in Hungary know someone that identifies as LGBTQ.
This is a dramatic increase on the results of a 2019 survey that only 24% of people knew an LGBTQ person. It also represents an uploft from a 2023 survey that found 54% of people knew an LGBTQ person.
Other insights from this most recent survey include a confirmation that 49% of people in Hungary support Marriage Equality. Support for Marriage Equality is weighted to young, educated people who live in Budapest.
There is also widespread support for LGBTQ people as parents, and also support for trans people.
What the survey results seem to suggest is that Hungarian society is generally more progressive than current government policy reflects.
