Podcast: We Were Always Here
In this new documentary podcast series – We Were Always Here – activist and health promotion specialist Marc Thompson seeks to bring the unheard voices and the untold perspectives of the UK HIV Epidemic to the fore – the series launches on 13 October.
2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the first scientific report describing pneumocystis pneumonia, which later became known as acquired immune deficiency syndrome or HIV/AIDS.
Over the years, filmmakers and screenwriters have brought HIV into the mainstream narrative, though often through the same lens.
Throughout this series, Marc Thompson seeks to bring the unheard voices and the untold perspectives of the UK HIV Epidemic to the fore, taking inspiration from the AIDS quilt as a metaphor and piecing together a rich tapestry of human experience. From sex workers to Trans community Women to Clinicians, these are stories of loss, of activism, of rage and resilience and most importantly, community.
“This isn’t the definitive history of the UK HIV epidemic, but it’s our history, moments from our lives that defined the epidemic for us.“
