Randy Rainbow and the power of show-tunes
While US politics continues to seemingly spiral out of control, we’re grateful to comedian Randy Rainbow for helping us all to see the funny side of life within a Trumpian dystopia.
Randy Rainbow has elevated the video parody genre to a whole new level, and the Trump administration has been providing him with plenty of material.
This latest episode in Rainbow’s parody series takes inspiration from the Jonas Brothers and reflects on President Trump urging US congresswomen to “go back where they came from.”
Of course, the reality of the unravelling of all political norms in the US is not at all funny. It’s difficult not to feel a bit pessimistic at how easy it is for the world to veer off in directions that were previously inconceivable.
It’s increasingly unclear as to how best to respond to the avalanche of scandal and controversy that seems to emanate from US politics every day. While it’s tempting to just try and ignore it and hope that normal service resumes after the 2020 election, the grown-up thing to do is to try and get to grips with the stories behind the headlines. What is motivating the main players in this drama? What consequences do these decisions have?
But, in the meantime, let’s try and keep our spirits up with a bit of Randy Rainbow.
