The Papa Party will have you dancing in your Superhero Underwear
If you’re looking for an opportunity to road-test your Halloween costume, then head to Washington, D.C. where the Papa Party hits town on 18 October.
Eliad Cohen launched the first Papa Party in 2011 at Tel Aviv Pride, and it’s now grown to become one of the world’s biggest queer party brands. You can find Papa popping up in gay hot-spots such as Madrid, London, Tel Aviv, and Sao Paulo.
Venue for the event is Saint Yves, and Papa Party’s Eliad Cohen will be there in person to supervise proceedings. DJ Alex Acosta is in charge of the music, and La Fantasy’s Q – or Mother Fantasy – will be combining the event with his birthday celebrations.
I caught up with Eliad Cohen and Q for a behind-the-scenes look at what we can expect from Papa Party’s Superhero Underwear Party in Washington, D.C.
This is the second time that you’ve brought Papa to Washington, D.C. Is D.C. a good city to party in?
Eliad: I was really surprised with the first edition of Papa in Washington, DC. I had an amazing time collaborating with Q and the La Fantasy production. The first edition was a lot of fun, the dance-floor was packed, and the energy was amazing. DC its a great city and I can’t wait for the second edition.
Q: DC has one of the largest LGTBQ communities in the country – relative to population size – and a wide variety of entertainment options to satisfy every desire.
The theme is Superhero Underwear, which seems like the ideal way to unleash our cos-play fantasies. Who are some of your favourite superheroes?
Q: I’m into Spiderman, Batman, and any of the X-Men characters.
Eliad: My favourite superhero is Super Papa!
Have you planned your outfit yet?
Q: Last year I dressed as Batman. As for this year, you’ll have to wait and see for yourself!
Eliad: I’ll be Super Papa, of course.
As you take Papa around the world, which are some of the cities that you always look forward to – which cities do you feel guarantee that you’ll have a good time?
Eliad: Brazil is definitely my favourite place for parties.
How do you ensure that you get enough down-time to look after your health and fitness?
Eliad: It’s really hard to keep up with the diet and gym with all the travelling. But, I’m trying my best to stay focused and keep to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
What do you hope that people feel when they’re attending the Superhero Underwear party in Washington, D.C.?
Q: I want people to feel safe, have fun, and live their fantasy behind the mask of their favourite superhero.
Eliad: I want them to feel free and party without any attitude – we want only good energy and love, because it’s all about that. See you guys on the dance floor!
