What to watch: Avocado Toast

The team from Avocado Toast are back on our screens in Season 2 of the queer, female-led dramedy from Canada.
Building on the success of its first season, Avocado Toast continues to tackle some of life’s toughest hurdles with wry humour – female friendship breakups, physical health, and mental health all have to be navigated.
Alongside Alexander Nunez, Avocado Toast is co-written by Heidi Lynch and Perrie Voss, who also star in the series.
“More than anything this season, I wanted to give Molly and Elle’s powerful friendship the send-off it deserved and fully explore the theme of female friendship breakups, something not widely represented on screen…” explains Heidi Lynch.
“I wanted to look at overwhelm and burnout…” adds Perrie Voss. “It can feel extremely daunting to get the help we need for our mental health and I wanted to explore this alongside the added layer of overcoming manipulation and control from those we thought we could trust and how that affects our wellbeing.”
“We always approach our writing from the lens of ‘What is the worst that can happen and how can we also find the humour and absurdity in it?’” continues Voss. “My hope is that humour continues to keep our story grounded and humanises the characters.”
Produced by Border2Border Entertainment and directed by Sam Coyle, the cast of Season 2 also includes Alexander Nunez, Prince Amponsah, Nelu Handa, Mag Ruffman, Jefferson Mappin, Clare McConnell, and Elena Juatco.
