What to watch: Peridot

Written and directed by Shane Pax – who also takes the lead role of Gabriel – Peridot gives us the story of a sex-worker in Los Angeles who forms an unlikely friendship with an older woman.
“Growing up, two of my favourite films were Harold and Maude and My Own Private Idaho…” explains Shane Pax. “After moving to Los Angeles to study film, acting, and writing at UCLA, I felt very inspired to create a film that blended these two timeless ideas together with a fresh, modern flair. On the surface, Peridot may seem provocative and edgy. However, once you dive deeper, you find the film is quite gentle, soft, and sweet.”
“At its core, this is a film about love and the many unexpected shapes it can take…” continues Pax. “This is also a film about how love knows no age. Every time the film leads you to believe sexuality is the driving force, it throws you for an unexpected twist: The truth that we all desire the most simple form of love. The film is also about seeing and loving people who may not be your own age, socioeconomic status, race, gender, etc. I hope people leave the film with a renewed perspective on love, age, and intergenerational connection.”
Peridot is distributed by Peccadillo Pictures
