Women we love: Kate MacKinnon – poking fun at the world and making us laugh
As Elizabeth Warren takes the lead in the race to become the Democrat’s nominee for 2020, the woman that we’re really keeping our eye on is Kate MacKinnon – Warren has become of of MacKinnon’s go-to impersonations and it’s a killer.
MacKinnon’s impersonations have always been one of her strengths. She says her knack for accents began in grade school, where she made her classmates laugh with an attempt at a British accent.
Pursuing her passion for performing, MacKinnon completed a degree in theatre at Columbia University, focusing on comedy and musical improv.
First hitting our screens in 2007 – as a cast member of Logo TV’s The Big Gay Sketch Show – it was in 2012 that MacKinnon hit the big time and became part of the cast of Saturday Night Live.
Political figures are often the focus of SNL’s sketches, and MacKinnon’s Hillary Clinton became iconic. We’re also currently seeing a lot of her as a vampiric Rudy Giuliani, which is hilarious.
MacKinnon has won two Emmys and also appeared in numerous movies – including Ghostbusters, The Spy Who Dumped Me, and Yesterday.
We love a woman who makes us laugh.
