Who are The Chicks?
The Chicks are a trio of impressive women – sisters Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Strayer, alongside Natalie Maines.
They came together as a band in 1989, based in Dallas. But they began to find commercial success after some line-up changes. By 1998, their tracks There’s Your Trouble and Wide Open Spaces were finding a global audience and their contemporary take on bluegrass was attracting a lot of attention.
To date, they’ve won 13 Grammy Awards. Their 2007 album, Taking the Long Way, was recognised as Album of the Year.
The Chicks have never held back from sharing their opinions. Their opposition to the US invasion of Iraq led to calls for their music to be boycotted.
