ManCrush: Yesutoro

Based in Spain, Yesutoro is a model and social media star – but he’s also a lot more than what you might see on his Instagram.
Yesutoro makes it clear in his bio that his social media profile is only one version of his life.
“Make no mistake: I am not everything you see, and you don’t see everything I am.”
That sense of wanting to remind the world that there’s more to Yesutoro than just a one-dimensional projection has inspired artist David Cantero to create The Hard Life of a Perfect Man, published by erotic comic specialists Class Comics.
Cantero has created an authorised biography of the daily dilemmas that Yesutoro has to navigate, as people project their fantasies onto his social media character, forgetting that he’s also a real person. Yesutoro’s encounters illustrate that while his Instagram posts might suggest that he’s living a perfect life, reality is generally a more complicated picture.
Available in both English-language and Spanish-language versions, the deluxe edition of The Hard Life of a Perfect Man also includes character studies, pin-up art, a silent edition, and behind-the-scenes sketches.
The situations documented by Cantero – which include plenty of erotic and explicit moments – are (very loosely) based on the stories that Yesutoro has shared with him.
The result is a fascinating project. It’s still sexy and sexual, but this is a long way removed from the illustrated fantasies that you might normally associate with the world of erotic comics. Cantero’s story-telling and artwork are top-drawer as always, and being able to draw from Yesutoro’s real-life experiences gives this work emotional depth.
Whether or not you were already a fan of Yesutoro, The Hard Life of a Perfect Man is going to give you a new level of respect and admiration for a guy who’s clearly a lot more than just a hot body on Instagram.

Statement by Yesutoro
“Today, social networks give us the possibility to design, build and show the image of ourselves that we want: a more beautiful face, more interesting experiences, a more slender body, a more attractive life… in short, an ultra-improved version of our self. And although this is not the point of social networks, who is reluctant to make up their own reality when it is offered so easily?”
“At the touch of a finger, we show our refurbished profile in the window of the infinite network controlling even the smallest detail, or so we believe… because from the moment we publish one of those perfect snapshots, the world is free to analyse us, love us, hate us or ignore us causing us to lose the control we thought we had of our image. Through the small doses that we are publishing of our redesigned self, there is a continuous interaction between our product and the curious eyes that see it, giving rise to the character that finally occupies our profile in social networks, which is gradually shaping with every “like”, every comment, every “follow”, every “repost”… To a greater or lesser extent, this character is always different from our real self but to what extent does it respond to the specifications of our careful design? And to what extent has it been re-moulded beyond our control, by the fantasies of the minds of the people who see it?”
“This book is about this and it’s based on a series of experiences I’ve lived since 2012, when I opened my Instagram account, in which on certain occasions, my interaction with real people has been conditioned by my character on the social network. Through the story of these experiences created by my friend David Cantero and his ingenuity and extraordinary hand, this great, acid and fun comic book shows how Yesutoro, “my character” from Instagram, translates into crazy, funny moments, and the everyday situations of real life of a normal person like me.”
