Drag Race Spain - S4E9: The Recap

Drag Race Spain - easily one of the best variations of the global franchise - has been smashing it with Season 4, and we're reaching the business end of proceedings.

The mini challenge

The mini challenge was a quiz about LGBTQ equality. Educational content and fun to watch. Nailed it.

Vampi was the winner.

The Main Challenge

This week was the make-over challenge. The twist - which I really liked - was that they brought in established old-school Drag Queens and the challenge was for the competing cast to be transformed into their drag daughters.

Adapting their style to their allocated drag mothers, the queens had to create a look from scratch.

This really was a treat - to see the respect being paid to the iconic queens that paved the way.

The looks and runway presentations were all solid - there were no disasters.

The judging

Chloe was declared the winner - that made sense, she delivered a strong performance in every aspect and really looked like she was enjoying everything she was doing.

Ultimately, we were left with a Bottom 2 of Mariana versus Coco - two of the strongest performers in the competition.

The lip-sync

The track was Las Babys by Aitana.

This is a fun, upbeat track but it's tricky to lip-sync to.

Both Mariana and Coco did a solid job - you could easily have made a case for either of them to win or even for both of them to stay.

However, it was Coco who was declared the winner, sending Mariana home.

Episode 9, done!

Cast

Still in the running

  • Chloe Vittu: She's got a lot of raw potential and the judges are rewarding that.
  • La Niña Delantro: She made a positive impression with the judges from the get-go and has grown throughout the competition.
  • Le Cocó: Consistently high placements - she's pretty much certain to win it from here.
  • Vampirashian: It's been a very clean run for Vampi. She doesn't have the biggest personality but she's a very accomplished drag queen.

Eliminated

  • Mariana Stars: My early pick to win and she's been very strong throughout the competition. Her elimination on the Make-over Challenge was a bit of a shock - beaten in the lip-sync by Coco - but she's a lock for All Stars.
  • Megui Yeillow: From Pit Crew to drag queen - this could have been a car-crash but she's been consistently strong. I underestimated Megui.
  • Angelita La Perversa: It's been a roller-coaster of a season for Angelita - highs and lows. She didn't seem to be very likeable but she gave us good TV.
  • Miss Khristo: Winning the first week is the way you want to start Season 4. She consistently smashed the runways but couldn't translate that excellence into every challenge.
  • Kelly Passa: A strong performance in the acting challenge but it was the Girl Group challenge that tripped her up.
  • Dita Dubois: Giving us a different perspective on drag from the Canary Islands, Dita never really got motoring in this competition.
  • Porca Theclubkid: A shame to lose Porca so early, she seems like she's an entertaining performer and an engaging character.
  • Shani LaSanta: Disappointed that Shani has left the competition - she seems a really engaging queen with plenty to offer, but her looks let her down in this first episode, making her the Pork Chop of the season.
