Drag Race UK: S6E8 - The Recap
Are you up to speed?
Drag Race UK has sometimes felt a bit hit or miss but this has become a really solid season with an engaging cast of queens.
The main challenge
This week was the Make-over Challenge - turning family members into drag queens.
Overall, everyone did a pretty solid job.
The judging
Marmalade was declared the winner, which made sense, but you really could have made a case for anyone.
Ending up in the bottom were Rileasa and Charra. They didn't do a bad job but their looks were probably the simplest on the runway.
The lip-sync
The track was Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.
This is an odd choice for a lip-sync duel. Sure, it's camp and fun, but there's nothing particularly drag about it.
Charra went for comedy while Rileasa went for pretty. Both did a solid job of performing the song and you could have made a case for either of them to have been declared the winner.
I was half expecting a double-save, which often happens in a make-over challenge, but that wasn't to be. Rileasa was declared the winner, sending Charra home.
Episode 8, done!
The Cast
Still in the running
- Kyran Thrax: Kyran is dominating and will probably win the whole thing.
- La Voix: Not the most likeable of characters but a seasoned performer and performing well in the challenges.
- Lill: An interesting point of view but it feels like we're reaching the end of the road for Lill.
- Marmalade: Tall and skinny, she's giving fashion but surprisingly competent at everything.
- Rileasa Slaves: There's a lovely warmth to Rileasa's personality - she presents really well on screen. It probably won't be enough for her to win the competition, but she's going to establish herself.
Eliminated queens
- Charra Tea: Bubbly energy and upbeat personality - she gives good TV. The make-over challenge was her undoing, beaten in the lip-sync by Rileasa.
- Actavia: Actavia is a fantastic performer and I love her energy. She always threw everything she had at whatever she tackled. Eliminated eventually by Lill.
- Chanel O’Connor: She smashed the sewing challenge and did her best to claim the villain edit. Ultimately, the performance side of things was her downfall.
- Kiki Snatch: A natural performer, she's most at home on stage. It feels like she's still figuring out who her persona is and how to navigate the off-stage moments, but she'll get there - an obvious contender for All Stars.
- Zahirah Zapanta: Disappointed to lose Zahirah so early in the competition - love her upbeat energy and she gives good TV, however she never really seemed to make an impression with the judges. Would love to see more from Zahirah.
- Dita Garbo: An experienced queen making her return to drag, but it may be a short-lived career revival - never really getting started in this competition.
- Saki Yew: The Pork Chop of the season by default, Saki eliminated herself with an injury sustained from a fall in the shower. Not the storyline that she would have been hoping for but hopefully we'll see her triumphantly return next season.
