Looking for a Men's Tropical Nude Retreat?

Looking for a Men's Tropical Nude Retreat?

Based in Northern Queensland, Damien from Bare Beach Boys is a naturist and content creator, and he’s hosting a Men’s Tropical Nude Retreat.

We caught up with Damien recently for the Naked Men Talking podcast.

In the conversation, we talk tropical weather, sexual energy, and how to avoid jellyfish.

Listen to the episode.

Last time we spoke, you mentioned that you had plans for a retreat in the pipeline. You've now announced the dates and the venue. Before we get into the detail of it, what were some of the challenges in bringing the event together to get to a point where you think, okay, I'm ready to go ahead with this?

It all sort of happened pretty naturally, actually.

I had Luke come stay with me from Kahunaman body works - he came to create some content for his massage website.

We were creating content together and we were just talking about our ideas for the future and we started to collaborate. It happened really organically.

The main struggle I guess was probably trying to find the venue.

Airlie Beach isn't, doesn't have a lot of big accommodations. We found some great little houses, but they'd always have the neighbours really close by or the owner of the house will be staying close by - so it’s not really appropriate to have naked men running around. But we came across Turtle Cove which is sort of designed for that. It’s a nude resort with a nude beach, and we could take over the whole venue.

Turtle Cove is an amazing location, but it is a long way from Airlie Beach?

In the future, we'll keep looking for places in Airlie Beach, but it was important to find the privacy and the space.

What's Turtle Cove like these days? I've only been there once and it was years ago now, It's really fallen off my radar.

It's still going strong. They obviously got hit by Cyclone Jasper, so they're still sort of recovering from that. They have great events there - such as a full moon party on the beach.

Let's dive into the detail of the event. It's a men's tropical nude retreat. What does that actually involve?

So first of all, you've got to be nude for the whole week - it's a week long retreat.

We're doing a whole bunch of workshops.

I’ll be hosting my stretching classes, and Luke will be doing his massage workshops - a different style massage every day. He's also going to be doing his breath-work and body-touch workshops as well.

It turns out that there’s a full moon at the end of our stay, so we’re putting on a naked version of the full moon party.

Do you do all the workshops or do you opt in to the ones that you want to do? Could you just take an afternoon off and lie on the beach or something?

It’s up to you. There’s different packages available. Nothing is mandatory.

Would you describe it as a sex-positive kind of space or is this more traditional social naturism - naturism that doesn't lean into that sexual energy?

It's sex-positive.

The workshops aren't orientated around having sex, but they're sort of like a lead up to having it.

For instance, my partner stretch classes are a good way to stretch but also a good way to get intimate with somebody and create that connection while you're doing it.

The same with Luke's breath and body-work classes. They're more for yourself, building your own sexual energy and getting to know your own body and stuff like that.

What sort of guys do you think will sign up to the retreat?

There'll be a bunch of guys that follow Luke and they're there for the massage classes and stuff like that.

I've got a bunch of people that follow me on Twitter and Instagram - they're coming along for the stretch classes.

So it will be everyone from young guys up to an older demographic - you want to have a bit of everything, a bit of flavour, a bit of age differences, people with different abilities, people after different things.

When I was at Turtle Cove, there were signs everywhere warning against crocodiles and box jellyfish. Do you have to give a daily safety briefing to everyone to say watch out for the crocodiles, watch out for the jellyfish?

Well, the good thing is that between the end of April and the beginning of October, the water temperatures drop. It's still nice and warm for us to swim but it's too cold for jellyfish.

So, in May when we’re holding the retreat,  there will be no jellyfish.

There will also be no crocodiles because you’d really only see them in that area during breeding season.

What do you hope that guys feel when they're taking part in your men's tropical nude retreat at Turtle Cove?

First of all, I hope that they get to meet some new guys and new people who are on the same as them and have the same interests as them.

It’s also a great opportunity to help you connect with your sexual energies or your sex drive whenever you need to, as well as learning stuff with my stretch classes, learning how to look after yourself, same with the massage classes. We’re just going to be learning stuff about our bodies and learning stuff about ourselves.
