New app aims to help queer people find safe spaces

Shane Collective is a new app designed to help the LGBTQIA+ community identify and share safe and inclusive spaces - including places, businesses, and services.

The app will help to certify those spaces that meet the inclusivity standards. Users will be able to contribute to the certification process through anonymous ratings and reviews.

Users will be able to search for spaces using filters such as "LGBTQ+ led," "trans-inclusive," and "gender-inclusive toilets."

“Everyday tasks that others may take for granted - like travelling for work, meeting friends at a bar, or simply using a public restroom - can be daunting or even dangerous...” explains the team at Shane. “This web app is a first step on a long road toward true LGBTQ+ safety and inclusion.”

Shane Collective will launch on 17 December.
