New music from Pandora Boxx: Dance

Time to bust out the moves.

New music from Pandora Boxx: Dance

Pandora Boxx has a new album on the way - it's called BOXX and it's a dance album.

The first track released from the album is Dance - a song that Pandora has written for her younger self. Pandora reflects that as a young boy, they were picked on at school, would come home, lock the door, listen to Madonna, and dance their troubles away.

We caught up with Pandora for a behind-the-scenes look at her music.

Releasing music is something that you've been passionate about throughout your career, how has your music evolved over the years?

With this album I definitely went more personal with my lyrics. I wanted some more meaning behind it but still have a fun dance beat.

What's your creative process when you're writing songs?

It really varies. I tend to get a lot of ideas when I'm driving. So I'll have to make voice memos of the song ideas.

With this album I also set aside time to write at night. My friend Brandon James Gwinn produced eight of the songs with me. I would write lyrics and then we'd Facetime and discuss how I thought the song should go. Then he'd come back with demos of it.

The first single from the upcoming album is Dance - you've said that you've written this song for your younger self. When you were growing up, was this the career that you dreamed of, or would your younger self be a bit surprised at how things have turned out?

My younger self didn't even know what a drag queen was!

I always wanted to be an actor since I was five. And I am but not in the way I thought. I think he would be excited to see all the fabulous things that have come into my life.

You're one of the performers who helped define the Drag Race franchise. Is music where your focus is now or would you be tempted to return to reality television if you got the call for a season of Global All Stars?

I'm very proud of my album. Right now, that's where my focus is because of promoting it and putting together a show to tour with that includes music from it.

I love doing television. I'd say never say never but I think they are done with me as far as Drag Race is concerned.

I'm really more open to a non-competition type of television.

What do you hope that people feel when they're listening to Dance?

I hope they dance! I hope the song makes people happy. And if they want to dive a little deeper with the lyrics, I hope it resonates with people and maybe they won't feel so alone.
