Sexy dance drama from Mexico.

What to watch: Dying Briefly

Written and directed by Juan Briseño, Dying Briefly [Seré breve al momento de morir] gives us the story of Sebastian (Martín Saracho) and Arsenio (Joan Kuri).

The two young men are both dancers at a prestigious dance company in Mexico. They are lovers, and they're both competing for the coveted position of lead dancer for an upcoming performance.

Holding their fate in his hands is Mikael (Mikael Lacko) - the fiery new choreographer who doesn't hesitate to test the boundaries of his dancers.

Heavily stylised, this is melodrama writ large - there's references to Saint Sebastian and Swan Lake.

But this is compelling storytelling and a very watchable film.

Martín Saracho as Sebastian is the performance that demands attention - he simultaneously gives us damaged, vulnerable, and fearless in everything he does.

These men are messy - sexy, ambitious, jealous, horny, and obsessive.

Worth adding to your watch-list.
