Drag Race France - S3E5: The Re-cap.

Drag Race France is back on our screens, with Season 3 well underway.

The mini-challenge

This week was the Reading Challenge - a staple of the format and this one was solid enough.

Filip was declared the winner.

The maxi-challenge

Snatch Game can be a bit of a car-crash to watch but it's - contractually - an essential element of the franchise.

This time around, the queens had to deliver two separate characters. We've seen this before on All Stars, but two characters is tough. If we take the show on face-value, it seems that the queens didn't know about the quick-change into character two (although they were obviously told to prepare multiple characters). Crazy.

Ruby smashed this. Clearly a step ahead of the rest of the cast in their character and improv work.

The runway

This week's category was Mythical Villains.

We got two Medusas. On one hand, that's not surprising as she's an awesome sexy villain, but on the other hand - why didn't someone in production find a solution to this before we got to filming? There's a lot of mythical villains to choose from?

The judging

In the top were Ruby, Misty, and Lula.

Ruby was always going to win. She smashed it this week.

In the bottom were Filip and Norma. I guess that was fair enough, but it could easily have been Lula.

The Lip Sync

The track was Marcia Baila by Les Rita Mitsouko.

This is a fun track with plenty of personality.

Norma was undoubtedly hampered by her outfit - she was dressed as a crow spirit, which really didn't match the energy of this song.

In contrast, Filip's Elle Driver perfectly gelled with the kooky intensity of the track.

It was a clear win to Filip.

Episode 5, done!

The Cast

Leona Winter

Current Ranking: Leona is used to being on TV and she's used to competitions - that kind of experience goes a long way in this format and it's standing Leona in good stead.

Le Filip

Current Ranking: While it felt as if Le Filip was a little overwhelmed in Week 1, it's clear that she's a talented queen with plenty to offer this competition. Her dry sense of humour is a joy, but she hasn't yet been able to fire on all cylinders.

Misty Phoenix

Current Ranking: I underestimated Misty - she seems to be a very strong performer. She's a great dancer, and also gives good TV. I now officially adore Misty.

Perseo

Current Ranking: The queens of the Canary Islands know how to put on a show. Love her energy.

Ruby On The Nail

Current Ranking: Ruby is probably my favourite in this cast. The win in Snatch Game was well deserved but she can't afford any more stumbles - she's now either going to go all the way to the final or she may have peaked.

Lula Strega

Current Ranking: Lula's hanging in there but her energy doesn't seem to be at the level where it's going to need to be in order to make it much further in this competition.

Norma Bell

Final Ranking: Norma's had a good season - winning Week 1 and establishing herself as a talented and likeable queen. Snatch Game was her undoing, beaten in the lip-sync by Filip.

Edeha Noire

Final Ranking: Edeha's got a big personality but she never really found her level in this competition. Eliminated in Episode 3, beaten in the lip-sync by Ruby.

Magnetica

Final Ranking: It feels like we're losing Magnetica a bit early in the competition - she's got an interesting perspective and seems like an accomplished performer. However, Episode 2 was the end of the road for her in this competition.

Afrodite Amour

Final Ranking: Afrodite is the Pork Chop of the season - eliminated in Episode 1. With only a year of drag under her belt, it was always going to be a big ask to put her skills to the test in this format.
