Who is Massimo Arad?
Originally from São Paulo in Brazil, Massimo Arad has always had a passion for health and fitness – it’s a fitness journey that began when he first started hitting the gym at the age of 19.

“Secondly, once you’ve got the body, you’ve got to keep that body looking good. We’re talking grooming here, boys! Keep everything trimmed or clean-cut. I know there’s a niche for everything in porn, and I’m all about the self-love. As a general rule though, nobody really wants a hair ball when going down on a guy. Definitely not a cute look, especially on HD film!”
“Finally, I really believe that by maintaining my physical and mental well-being, I can do my job right. I never wanted to be the stereotypical guy doing porn and getting messed up at weekends on drugs. Valuing your mental and physical health – with the right nutrition and spiritual practices – really does set you up to succeed. Not just in porn but also in life in general.”
Training for a porn shoot
“I’d say the main difference between everyday training in the gym and how I train for a shoot is the end goal of the training…” explains Massimo. “For day-to-day training, we’re focusing on strength training, increasing the weight you’re lifting and building muscle mass. It’s all about the long term results. If I’m getting ready for a shoot, I’m focusing more on volume over weight. I want to get my muscles pumped for the camera and get those instantaneous gains that come with it. My muscles aren’t going to be the same a few days after, but they look their best for that pivotal moment. I’m camera ready!”
“I’m also focusing on different muscle groups depending on the shoot. If I’m topping in a scene, I’m focusing on getting that chest big, my abs tight and my arms bulging. If I’m bottoming, well that’s pretty obvious. It’s all about my peach!”
“For everyday training, we’re working different muscles on different days but we’re working our entire bodies. For normal training, I want overall growth, but for my shoots it’s more camera specific.”
The porn-star diet
“There are definitely foods that I steer clear from when preparing for a shoot…” confirms Massimo. “But again, it really does depend on the role I’m playing. Very different preparation goes into being a top, in comparison to being a bottom.”
“As a general rule, I don’t eat many carbs before shooting, and I avoid any spicy food. I definitely don’t want to be bloated with an HD camera around.”
“If I was topping, I’d say a lot of protein and salads but always keeping the portions light. If we flipped it around and I was bottoming, I tend to go for red meat. It’s slow to digest and keeps the growling stomach at bay, while also helping to avoid any nasty surprises.”
“To get ready for a scene, my top three exercises are bench-press, cable crunch, and reverse squat…” says Massimo.
“A bench-press seems cliche, but it really is the best way to get that chest pumped. The cable crunch really gets in there and makes those abs pop. Finally, the reverse squat is by far the best way to get your peach ready for the cream!”
The power of squats
“When it comes to making your butt look good, we talk a lot about squats because a squat is a compound exercise that really targets that area of the body.”
“A compound exercise is one that works a group of muscles at the same time. A squat is when you start from a standing position and bend your knees to lower your hips towards the floor and then return to the standing position. This is a compound exercise because you’re working all of the muscles in the upper legs together with the antagonist muscles which are your glutes and your hamstrings.”
“These are big, powerful muscles. Including squats into your workout means that you’re really giving your butt some attention.”
How much should I be lifting?
“Getting the maximum benefit from your squats is not about how much weight you can lift, it’s all about technique and range of motion.”
“If you’re trying to do squats with heavy weights without the right technique and range, your workout won’t be effective and you’re more likely to injure yourself.”
What’s the technique?
“Working out in front of a mirror is a good way to keep an eye on your technique. But even if that’s not possible, what you need to focus on is keeping your feet hip-width apart, contract your abs, and as you drop your hips you want to keep your heels on the floor and your knees in line with your toes.”
Do I need a squat-rack?
“A squat-rack is great if you’ve got access to one, but you can do squats at home or in the park and still get results.”
“You can do squats just with your body-weight, with barbells, dumbbells, or a log that you’ve found in the park.”
“Remember, it’s the technique and the range of motion that are important.”
“If you want to add some variation into your work-outs, try lunges and deadlifts. Getting the technique right is just as important for these exercises, so make sure you know what you’re doing, but they’re also great exercises that really focus in on your butt and thighs.”
Is every day leg-day?
“When you’re working a major muscle group like this, you’ll get the best results if you let your muscles rest for 48-72 hours after a serious session of squats.”
“You won’t see results overnight. The results that you do see depends on lots of factors – your genetics, your work-out, your technique, and your motivation – but if you’re on the right track you should start to see some bounce in your butt after 3-4 weeks.”
“Put the work in and make sure your ass is an asset.”
