The Acrobat – things get intense and explicit in Montreal

Written and directed by Rodrigue Jean, The Acrobat – L’Acrobate – gives us the story of an intense encounter between two men in wintry Montreal.
The story of The Acrobat centres on Christophe (Sébastien Ricard) and Micha (Yury Paulau) – two men who meet by chance in an unoccupied unit in a high-rise construction project in Montreal.
There is an immediate sexual connection between Christophe and Micha. This develops into something deeper and more intense as their physical encounters help to numb the emotional pain that each of them are grappling with.
When Christophe and Micha have sex, it’s deliberately explicit – body doubles are used to bring oral sex, anal sex, and cum-shots to the screen in a way that we rarely see in this style of film. In the context of the story, it works.
A poignant exploration of the interdependence of physical and emotional need. Worth watching.
